Shipwright school blog - the timber frame takes shape

July 28, 2014

28 July 2014 – Progress is well underway and the timber frame is taking shape.
After another week of brilliant students the progress of the building has sped up and we are able to see whole walls and frames and now a roof section.

The weather has been blisteringly hot and all have needed to cool off in the adjacent river after a long day’s work. There is lots of interest from the visitors to Buckler’s Hard, most think we are building a boat and keep asking when it is being launched? That will come later when the building becomes a Shipwright School. More timber was delivered, more braces cut, more detailed explanations of timber frame joints and visits to local barns.

I learnt to make a peg for the building and promised to do some more!

We are now all looking forward to the raising next Saturday. Do come and join in with our Shipwrights’ Fun Day. It will be amazing and we have lots of other demonstrations of timber craft skills on the day as well as some live folk music to keep us going.
