Lessons shipshape as past re-enacted
Archaeology students from the University of Southampton spent the bank holiday weekend using boat-building skills practised in the time of Britain’s most famous naval officer, Horatio Nelson.
The group used oak timber from the Beaulieu Estate to fashion the main body of a ship when they took part in the 3 day course.
The Master students were joined by guest lecturer at the university and regular guest on TV’s ‘Time Team’, Dr Damian Goodburn.
The team from the university will be making further visit to Buckler’s Hard to continue their work.
